So Jeff and I have started a supper club of sorts. Here’s our logo:
This idea was born out of a few goals:
1. Cut down on eating at restaurants.
2. Get people in our house, which motivates us both to keep the laundry folded and the dishes clean.
3. Try new ideas in the kitchen on a group of willing guinea pigs.
This past Friday was our second week to try this experiment. So far, it is totally fantastic. We’ve made good use of our weekly farmer’s market for fresh, locally grown ingredients since we cancelled our co-op subscription for the summer.
Here’s what we ate two Fridays ago:
The Pioneer Woman’s Pot Roast
Sweturnitoes (Jeff’s invention…potatoes, sweet potatoes, and turnips mashed)
The Pioneer Woman’s Cobbler (we used peaches)
Basil lemonade (I just made lemonade, and added basil)
And last Friday was our all-veggie meal, with recipes gathered the old-fashioned way (cookbooks!):
Mint arugula pasta
Balsamic vinegar strawberries
Toasted french bread
This week we’re trying a BYOM (Bring Your Own Meat) party. Jeff is a grill master so it should turn out stellar results. I haven’t decided on dessert yet but my famous Krispy Kreme Bread Pudding needs to make an appearance, and fast.
Anyway, feel free to share some favorite dishes in the comments. We’ll need plenty to choose from as we’re planning to keep this going.
And that’s your update from The White House!
